Fiesta Time!
Boholanos (people from Bohol, where my mom is from) are the butt of every Filipino's jokes. ALWAYS made fun of for being super conservative and simple provincial folk, but equally heralded for being fun-loving party animals. I remember talking to a navy official while onboard a cargo ship in the middle of the Sulu Sea... he said: "Boholanos can never be kept away from their fiestas. No matter where they are, they MUST celebrate their fiesta. Their could be an atomic bomb about to go off on the island of Bohol, but Boholanos will still find away to get together with their kababayans (fellow islanders) to party."
And so it was today... Fiesta Time in Commack, Long Island, the unexpected gathering place of boholano-americans (and friends... xT, adam, turpana, erica) of the east coast. a tribute to the spirit of Boholanos everywhere... no matter where they may be.
My other half is Ilocano... not nearly as "cool" - some might say - as the other, Boholano half. But equally noble. Known for being hardworking, responsible people, it's a side of me that I can't ignore. We're also notoriously DARK skinned. not purple dark... just dark...
